Earlier this week, Antognolla Golf in Italy was delighted to host nine-time Major Champion Gary Player to the club, who had been on a whistle-stop tour of Italy following the BMW PGA Championships at Wentworth.
César Burguière, Antognolla’s director of golf, commented on Player’s visit: “Gary Player is one of the greatest golfers of all time and it is an honour to meet and host one of the original golfing superstars as well as a Grand Slam winner. We know Mr Player has a tight schedule so we were delighted to hear he wanted to play our course and experience our vision in person.
“Mr Player has designed over 200 courses around the world so welcoming him to Antognolla and hearing his opinion on the club and resort was a great privilege for the team and a credit to their unwavering commitment to excellence and the ongoing investment in the resort.”
During his visit, Player commented; “Although its been a very short trip to Antognolla Golf, I can say without reservation that the greens are some of the finest you’ll see here in Italy. The views from the course are simply spectacular and when the 12th century castle is restored as a hotel it will be one of the most beautiful places in Europe to stay. It is also a nice coincidence that my visit coincided with the Internationally recognised ‘Thank a Greenkeeper Day’, as the team here have done an outstanding job with the course.”
When finished, the resort will feature a 12th century castle and estate transformed into a 21st century exclusive international resort featuring a luxury hotel and one of the country’s finest golf courses, as well as a limited number of sumptuous residences. The project will become one of the first of its kind in Italy.
