MAJOR GOLF COURSE DEVELOPMENT PROGRESSES AT NAVARINO HILLS

The two-time Masters champion and Ryder Cup legend, José María Olazábal recently returned to Costa Navarino to oversee the fast progress of the developments at Navarino Hills. Despite the global pandemic, the development of the two golf courses stretching over 150 hectares at Navarino Hills, progresses according to program, with all infrastructure works including electrical installations, rainwater drainage works and an irrigation lake completed.

A water reservoir of 428,000 m, a key element for sustainable management of water resources is underway, according to the approved Environmental Impact Assessment study and in a short while the construction of the clubhouse facilitating both golf courses will begin to be constructed. At the same time the seeding of the grass at the West Course has begun in the first five fairways while in the East Course it will start very soon.

Overlooking The Bay Course and the historic Bay of Navarino, the two new 18-hole courses designed by Olazábal offer panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, the fertile Messinean landscape, dotted with olive groves, fragrant citrus orchards, rosemary and lavender scrubs, the mountains and local villages and the sapphire-blue Ionian Sea. Olazábal’s signature golf courses will extend the world-class golf offering of Costa Navarino and further enhance a unique year-round destination blessed with an ideal climate, lush seaside landscape and direct access. Navarino Hills will also boost Costa Navarino’s position as one of the world’s most environmentally friendly golf destinations, complementing the signature golf courses The Dunes Course and The Bay Course.

With four golf courses, each with a different concept, from a more easy-to-play course for amateurs and leisure guests to more challenging courses for pros and veterans, Costa Navarino enhances the overall golf experience and furthers its standing among the top golf destinations in Europe. Olazábal’s 20th course construction, is expected to open for play in spring, 2022, establishing Costa Navarino as one of the few upscale golf destinations around the world which combine such characteristics.

Commenting on the progress, Olazábal said: “I am delighted to return to Costa Navarino for a tour of the ongoing construction of the two new 18-hole courses on Navarino Hills. And I am proud to say that works have progressed nicely even during the challenges of the past months. We have already started seeding the grass on the West Course while shaping on the East Course continues in full speed. We still have some ways to go until the Opening, but I am thrilled how well the design is coming to life and I cannot wait to show everyone.”
